AUDITION NOTICE
“12 Angry Jurors” at LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY

Rehearsals starting September 3rd, 2024;  Production running October 2nd through October 6th, 2024

Hello all:

What do you need to know? For auditions, please read the full play and take a
look at the character breakdown at the front. Do not worry about the
gendered language in the descriptions, this will be cast to our needs. When preparing, be wary of filmed versions for reference as they are not the exact text we will be using.

What do you need to prepare? We will be working with cold reads from selected sides. Please look at the provided scene and two monologues. For the scene, one person will read as “Juror Eight” and then one person will read everyone else in the scene as one juror, so I can see a clear back and forth between two actors. Please be familiar with the text so you can lift the line off the page, but you do not need to be fully memorized.

What am I looking for? 1) I am looking for actors who can really connect and challenge each other. This means strong eye contact and an even stronger point
of view. 2) I want to see actors who can clearly articulate their side of the case with the text. Be persuasive and try different tactics to get the results that you
want in the scenes. 3) I want to see the beginnings of a very specific character with strong choices regarding status and backstory.

When and where do you need to be there? The audition will be Thursday, August 29th, beginning at 6:00PM in the Theatre lab on the first floor of the CSTAC building in room 101.

I am so excited to be doing this exciting play, and I hope you are too! This play is a theatrical classic, and it’s a wonderful way to start our season! I am very eager to meet you all and see your hard work!
